Services

The Emergency Animal Hospital of Ellicott City has been equipped for most any of your pets' emergency medical needs.

Emergencies come in as many shapes and sizes as our patients. From a dog with a bleeding toenail, to a cat hit by a car, or a ferret having trouble walking, our skilled doctors and technicians have the equipment and supplies to diagnose and treat your pet.

For patients with breathing difficulty or heart problems, our Intensive Care Unit will precisely control temperature and provide an enriched oxygen environment. This cage can comfortably accomodate animals as large as a St. Bernard.

Our complete in-house laboratory and radiology units aid in rapid and accurate diagnosis of most every medical condition. In most cases, we can have results in under 30 minutes.

A well-equipped surgical suite enables our doctors to perform a wide variety of emergency surgical procedures on site. We have multiparameter monitors to help the anesthetist maintain even the most critical animals safely through anesthesia.

Our active blood donor donor program keeps canine and feline blood products on hand for patients in need of a transfusion. All of our donors are screened for blood type and infectious disease for safety.

Pets that have contagious disease are kept in our isolation room with a separate ventilation system to prevent the spread of disease.

The rear half of our hospital is a single, large treatment area. If your pet needs to be hospitalized, they will be made comfortable in a cage or run as appropriate. Every patient is kept in the treatment area. This allows continuous monitoring of every pet, even when we may be performing procedures on others.

In addition to seeing patients on an emergency basis, we work closely with your veterinarian to provide services they may not have available after hours. If your pet need continuous monitoring and treatment or critical care when your veterinarian is closed, they may be transferred to the Emergency Animal Hospital overnight or all weekend long.

For all patients we see, whether on an emergency basis or as a transfer from your veterinarian, we will provide you with a copy of all medical records and tests as well as any x-rays that may have been taken. All records will be faxed to your vet so they know everything they need to about your pet's condition.
